No More Hairy-Scary with Laser Hair Removal

Unwanted hair? We all have some. We want more of it in some areas, and less-to-no hair in others (hello laser hair removal). This quest for no hair gets troublesome due to time spent shaving, burning your skin with depilatories, and home waxing jobs gone wrong—all of which are only temporary fixes. At Renew Medical Spa we use the Cynosure laser to permanently reduce the unwanted hair on your body through Laser Hair Removal.

What is LHR?

Laser Hair Removal (LHR) reduces unwanted hair permanently through the use of a laser. Hair growth patterns change with age. Whether it’s hair you’ve always had, or hair you’ve acquired over time, LHR could be an option for you. The laser works on follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of the treatment, so several treatments are necessary to get the follicles during their growth phase. Most areas require 3 to 6 treatments, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. Optimal long-term benefits depend on hair thickness, the area treated, and the particular natural growth cycle of the hair.

How does it work?

The laser uses the transfer of energy in the form of the laser light. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser light and converts it to heat. The heat loosens the hair and disables the cell from producing new hair. Simply put, the laser causes localized damage to the hair by selectively heating the dark pigment in the follicle, leaving the rest of the skin untouched.

What are the treatment areas?

At Renew Medical Spa, we use the gold-standard Cynosure laser because not all lasers are created equal!  We can treat all skin tones and types with this best-on-the-market laser hair removal system. Treatment areas include face, legs, arms, underarms, back, bikini line, legs, chest and more. We prefer no suntan in the area that is being treated, and only shaving prior to the treatment.

What to expect during and after a treatment?

The Cynosure laser sends out a targeted pulse to destroy the hair cell responsible for hair growth without damaging the surrounding skin. Most patients describe a variety of sensations during a treatment from tingling to the snap of a rubber band.  After a treatment the area could be slightly red and may feel like a mild sunburn. It’s important to use sunscreen if the area has to be exposed to the sun.
