WHAT IS BOTOX?
Botox is the purified form of botulinum toxin. It is FDA-approved for wrinkles between the eyebrows. It is also used to treat wrinkles and lines in other areas such as crow’s feet, across the forehead, around the mouth, and on the neck. Botox blocks the release of a substance called acetylcholine, which is how this muscle movement is inhibited. Botox is the most common cosmetic procedure in the U.S. A typical Botox appointment only takes about 15 minutes. Other than a few very minimal restrictions for the day of your appointment, you’ll be out the door and back to your daily activities.
WHAT DOES BOTOX DO?
Botox causes wrinkles to relax and soften. Wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to form facial expressions. Fine lines are also caused by factors such as sun damage, poor nutrition, genetics, and smoking. Botox is used to soften the face and take years off your appearance.
HOW CAN BOTOX CREATE A LIFT?
Botox can provide a subtle lift on the brows. By relaxing the muscles that pull down the brows, we’re able to create a gentle lift. This will also give the eyes a more open look and a refreshed appearance. Botox can even subtly lift the upper lift for a fuller appearance, and minimize wrinkles around the mouth.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME AFTER A TREATMENT?
This is a treatment with minimal to no downtime. Some patients experience slight bruising which typically resolves itself within a week. Within 3 to 7 days your Botox will begin working, and may last up to 4 months before an additional treatment is necessary.
